The last week in August, I began my new volunteering position. Washington Elementary School is located in Sherman, Texas. It takes care of approximately 400 students beginning with Kindergarten and traverses through the Fourth Grade. Hispanics make up most of the general population.
I help the teachers in whatever endeavor they are doing in their classrooms. I cut out laminated paperwork with names, numbers, and pictures on cardstock. I sharpen pencils, and write on 'give away' cards for things such as citizenship or other reasons and the children can redeem the cards at Applebee's and other merchants.
I help out teachers who ask me to help them. I usually work about 4 to 5 hours every Tuesday and Thursday. It is something that I truly enjoy doing with my free time.
