In November, 1978 I transferred to the Materials Building as an engineering technician reporting to a Chemical Engineer. My job included tracing lines that led from the chemical plant back into the reactor furnace room where silicon was deposited inside of reactors.
I also worked some in the laboratory analyzing chemical gases that were trucked in by tanker from vendors.
I worked in Silicon Manufacturing where I operated a small reactor pulling 1-1-1 orientation crystals into small silicon rods that were used as seed material for the furnace reactor room to grow large diameter silicon rods.
In the middle of 1979, I was loaned out to the head engineer of the Poly Silicon Plant being constructed in Sherman, Texas at Texas Instruments. My duties consisted of running up and down the highway hauling radios and various items used in building a reactor for the new plant in Sherman, Texas. I solicited bids from machine shops all over North Texas to build equipment for the Poly Silicon Plant.
In September of 1980, I transferred to the Poly Silicon Plant in Sherman and into the Repair and Maintenance Shop handling paperwork for the Cost Center Manager over this particular area.
In October of 1980, I was asked to lend my support to the cost accounting area of the Poly Silicon Plant. I worked in this area for two years handling stock room audits, and as a buyer for equipment that was stocked in the stock room. I also handled the reconciliation of stock room reports monthly, quarterly, and yearly.
I also became involved in doing the monthly expense forecast for the production cost center in this area and this monthly expense exceeded over one million dollars a month.
I backed up the Poly Silicon Plant Safety Manager by leading safety audits of the plant, and leading and conducting monthly safety meetings.
I was the Editor, Writer, and Photographer for a newsletter called the Poly Gram which featured various operators and support personnel who worked in the Poly Silicon Plant. This was a monthly in this newsletter.
In the middle of October, 1982, I was transferred out into the field as a Poly Silicon Plant Operator due to losses of personnel through lay offs.
